East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School students in grades 7-12 are participating in lessons on inline skating and CrossFit training as part of their physical education classes.

Athletic Director David Barth said these physical education units provide students with knowledge of healthy activities outside of team sports that they can do throughout their life.

“Our teachers Karin Leary and Dan Vito are always looking for ways to keep classes interesting,” Barth said. These activities can not only be done at school, but at different venues in the community.”

Students are also learning about the importance of eating healthy, nutrition and how to take their heart rate in class, with teachers encouraging them to partake in a healthy lifestyle.
