Members of the Board of Education recognized Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz and East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School’s Poetry Madness winners at their most recent meeting.

Superintendent Ruiz was celebrated for receiving the Nassau BOCES Education Partner award, which pays tribute to outstanding community and business leaders, civil servants, government officials, nonprofit executives and volunteers, organizations, school administrators and staff, students, teachers and Nassau BOCES employees.

“The Board of Education thanks Mrs. Ruiz for her leadership in initiating positive changes in our district, which support all of our students and programs,” BOE President Patti Nicoletti said.
The high school’s student-poet winners read their inspiring poems to those in attendance at the meeting. Congratulations to Tyler Kelly (first place), Gabriella Padiernos (second place), Jessica Fraumeni (third place) and Anne Blaeser and Marc Crocco (who tied for fourth place).
