The East Rockaway Speech department is celebrating Better Hearing & Speech Month districtwide during the month of May to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of American Speech-Language Hearing Association members in providing life-altering treatment. This year’s theme is “Communication: The Key to Connection.”

Did you know that teachers and coaches are the professionals at the highest risk of developing voice disorders? Each building’s faculty was provided with information regarding how a Speech-Language Pathologist can assist a classroom teacher and their students in and out of the classroom with friendly reminders to protect their voices from permanent vocal cord damage. Staff members were treated to water bottles, candy and raffles to recognize their continued support of the speech department.
