Centre Avenue kindergartners recently began working on an informational writing piece by observing the Centre Avenue train station.

Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing where students explain a topic that they have studied and observed. Kindergartners used thinking maps to conduct their research. The Centre Avenue train station is adjacent to the playground that the children use at lunchtime and was a great place use for the assignment. The students also read the book “Pete the Cat’s Train Trip” by James Dean, which helped them understand what they would be observing.
