Rhame Avenue school students were honored during the district’s Board of Education meeting for their participation and excellence in this year’s PTA Reflections Arts Program.

Run by the National PTA, the acclaimed student recognition program is a volunteer arts program and contest that encourages artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. With this year’s theme “Look Within,” student participants created original works of art within several categories, such as dance, choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

“I would really like to thank our PTA for volunteering so much time to give our students this wonderful opportunity….it’s a fabulous extracurricular activity for our elementary school students to participate in,” said Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz.

From the 16 Rhame Avenue students who participated in the program, seven of them advanced to the Nassau County level. These included Amy Gamache, Julia Mannino, Jason Margiotta, Thomas Nestro, Joseph Petraro, Juliette Travia and Emily Valdebenito.

In addition, Margiotta, a first grader at Rhame Avenue School, was crowned a Nassau County Finalist for his piece, “Puzzle of Me.” Rhame Avenue Principal Dr. Ayesha McArthur congratulated him on his accomplishment.

“This is a wonderful achievement to represent our community and the entire county,” she said.
