Advanced Placement biology students from East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School students and third-graders from Centre Avenue dissected owl pellets during a recent meeting at the high school.

The science activity, organized by Centre Avenue teacher Anne Smyth and high school science teacher Alexandra Mendyk, brought students together to examine and identify the contents of owl pellets, which included bones from a variety of different animals. Mendyk said the AP Biology students were happy to work with the younger children and found it to be a relaxing activity after having completed their final. Meanwhile, Smyth acknowledged the positive impact of student collaboration.

“Students helping students is a wonderful learning channel,” Smyth said. “It really brings out the best in everyone.”
