The Board of Education appointed Sherry Ma as principal of Centre Avenue School and TJ DiPietro as assistant principal of East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School at its June 14 Board of Education meeting.

Ma, a resident of Plainview, most recently served as assistant principal of the Birch School in the Merrick Union Free School District, which educates more than 500 students in grades K-6. Prior to her appointment as assistant principal, she spent four years as the district’s gifted and talented coordinator and teacher for grades 3-6. Ma received her Advanced Certificate in School Building/District Leadership from Stony Brook University, has a Master of Arts from Queens College and a Bachelor of Science in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University. She is replacing current Centre Avenue Principal Tim Silk, who is set to retire at the end of the school year.

DiPietro is no stranger to the district, having served as East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School's English-Social Studies Department chairperson since 2008. Before coming to East Rockaway, DiPietro was a full-time secondary English teacher at South Side High School in Rockville Centre from 2002-2008, and at Baldwin Senior High School in Baldwin from 1997-2002.. She earned her School Building Leader Certification from Queens College, a Master of Arts in English Education from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. DiPietro replaces Assistant Principal Dina Reilly.

“We are pleased and excited to have these two highly qualified individuals on our administration team,” Superintendent Lisa Ruiz said. “I look forward to working closely with them both to support their transition to their new roles.”
