Students at Centre Avenue recently completed two weeks of Pick a Reading Partner.

PARP is a New York State PTA reading program where parents, teachers and staff work together to encourage children to become better readers. This year’s  theme was “Be a Reading Detective.” Centre Avenue’s PTA provided optional take-home packets with activities, reading logs and book review worksheets that focused on asking important questions and finding meaningful words. Students who participated in PARP received books and prizes.

The school held a PARP kickoff assembly on Oct. 24 featuring magician Joe Holiday, who presented the Reading Rocks Magic Show. The closing assembly featured Joe McGee, author of “Peanut Butter and Brains.” McGee also had lunchtime chats with students in a more intimate setting.

Principal Sherry Ma extends a sincere thank-you to the PTA for making this opportunity possible for the students of Centre Avenue.
