Fifth-grade students in ToniAnn Donald’s class at Centre Avenue used Thinking Maps to reinforce a recent vocabulary lesson.

Thinking Maps are visual patterns that are linked to eight specific thought processes. This method of teaching is part of a districtwide initiative to focus on academic vocabulary.

According to Donald, Thinking Maps enhanced the lesson by encouraging the students to break down their vocabulary words to have a better understanding of them and to help reach higher levels of critical and creative thinking.
