East Rockaway eighth-graders participated in the East Rockaway Pearl Harbor Remembrance ceremony. Veterans and elected officials spoke to the assembled guests about the importance and sacrifices of what many consider the greatest generation.
This was the 10th year that East Rockaway students have paid their respects to all those who were lost in the attack, commemorating the day of infamy. After the ceremony, the students were invited to the American Legion for lunch sponsored by the veterans. Members of the group also invited students to participate in its essay-writing contest, which asked them to communicate the importance of remembering the tragic events of December 7, 1941.  The students then brainstormed together some feelings and adjectives of their experience at the ceremony to create a thinking map to help them write their essays.
