Centre Avenue sixth-graders in Kelly Dowling’s class created interactive number lines that represented positive and negative integers in real world context. As part of the lesson, students were provided with painter's tape, a sharpie and different positive and negative numbers on index cards. As a group, they had to create a number line where they would plot each point provided on the painter's tape and explain its meaning. For example, -13 could represent a drop in 13 degrees and a +$20 could represent a deposit of $20.
