All of us, parents and teachers alike, are aware that one of the toughest challenges we face is helping our children avoid the perils of substance abuse.

Through the efforts of the East Rockaway School District Prevention Task Force, parents, students, school personnel and community organizations have joined together in a comprehensive, community-based prevention effort to protect our children and eliminate tolerance of underage drinking and illicit drug use.

This year, through a partnership with the East Rockaway Kiwanis, members of the Prevention Task Force have been hard at work on the development and distribution of an informative guide titled “A Parent’s Guide for the Prevention of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Use.” The purpose of this guide will be to help parents understand the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and provide ways to seek help, support and guidance if necessary. Stay tuned for more information.
