The physical education efforts of Centre Avenue students were recognized in the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Nassau Zone’s Get Moving 2017 contest.

Physical education teacher Wayne Smyle entered the contest with a video that demonstrated the many creative and innovated activities that occur as part of the school’s physical education curriculum. Students participated in fitness stations and the 100-Mile Club. They also used technology such as iPads, a SmartBoard and an Apple TV as part of their instruction.

“This video was not only great for the contest,” Smyle said. “It provided a snapshot of the elementary physical education curriculum, and how it has become a place for students to thrive no matter what skill level they possess.”
Centre Avenue’s video placed second in the contest. Mr. Smyle was able to order $400 for physical education equipment. He will also be recognized and receive a plaque at the Nassau Zone Awards Ceremony on June 12 at 7 p.m. at Adelphi University.
