East Rockaway Appoints New Administrators Photos
The East Rockaway Board of Education announced the appointment of two new administrators at its meeting on May 23.
    
Mona Hecht, the current director of guidance at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School will move to the position of assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Alex Goldberg was named director of technology and learning analytics. Both appointments will take effect July 1.
    
Hecht, a Centerport resident, has served as director of guidance since 2011. In addition, she has maintained the role of district supervisor of the Nassau BOCES/East Rockaway Twilight Program for the past three years. Prior to her career in East Rockaway, Hecht spent nine years as district administrator for guidance services for the Sachem School District. She also worked as a guidance counselor and guidance chairperson in the Carle Place School District.
    
Hecht holds a master of science in school counseling and a professional diploma in educational administration from Long Island University. She earned a bachelor of arts in English from Hartwick College in 1990.
    
Goldberg, a resident of Bethpage, spent the last five years as a program specialist at Nassau BOCES. He also served as an educational technology specialist at the Henry Viscardi School from 2010-12. He holds an advanced certificate in school district leadership from Adelphi University, a master of science in instructional technology specialist from the New York Institute of Technology, a master of education in secondary education social studies from Hofstra University and a bachelor of arts in history from Binghamton University.      
    
“Building a cohesive leadership team is a critical step to moving our district forward and I am pleased to have two outstanding educators join the East Rockaway Schools administrative team,” Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz said. “Ms. Hecht has a proven track record of innovation, commitment and success as our director of guidance, and I am confident that she will provide strong leadership for our district in her new role. Mr. Goldberg brings a great deal of knowledge, skill and expertise in all areas of technology and we look forward to him joining our team in this new position.”
