Eighth-grade students at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School participated in the annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance ceremony on Dec. 7, marking the 76th anniversary of the “date that will live in infamy.”

The East Rockaway American Legion and VFW hosted the event. Veterans from all wars since WWII, elected officials and dignitaries attended. Afterwards, the American Legion hosted the students for a luncheon with the veterans. The school community extends a special thank-you to Tony Donato, who spearheaded the ceremony many years ago as a way to honor those who died and served our country so valiantly. The Legion also sponsored an essay-writing contest for the students that focused on the importance of remembering and honoring our past.
