Rhame Avenue kindergarteners learned and read about gingerbread men prior to the holiday break.

Using a brace thinking map, students learned what ingredients were needed to bake a gingerbread man. They then baked a gingerbread man in the school’s oven. Later they learned… it had escaped! Where could he be? Students put signs up around the school. The gingerbread man was eventually found, under the desk of Principal Erik Walter.

The children also enjoyed reading many versions of “The Gingerbread Man.” After their reading, the students were challenged to design a bridge to go over the river that would help the gingerbread man escape from the Big Bad Wolf. Students worked together to plan, design and test out their bridges. They used many different materials and discussed which worked out best.
