Students in all English language art classes at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School are analyzing works that reflect the spirit of Black History Month, to honor the creators of powerful literature, poetry and nonfiction.

Ms. Katherine Curcio’s ELA 10 Honors classes studied “What’s Your Name, Girl?” by Maya Angelou. The class considered the following question, “If Viola represents one subculture, and our narrator represents another subculture, what conclusions might we draw about what is happening within the American culture at large during this time period?”
