In preparation for the upcoming AP Physics 1 exam, East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School students in Mr. Bryan Palermo’s class had to design an experiment to determine the height of a dynamics track.
Students were given an index card, scotch tape, graphing calculator, a ruler, photogate timer and a dynamics track with a cart. The constraint was that students were not permitted to directly measure the height of the track. Working in small groups, students had to eventually determine how to use conservation of energy principles to calculate the height.
