East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School’s Class of 2018 valedictorian Marissela Gomez and salutatorian Gabriella Walsh, as well as scholar-athletes and retirees, were celebrated at the June 12 Board of Education meeting.

The evening began with East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School Principal Neil Lederer congratulating Gomez and Walsh on their achievements. It continued with student-athletes from the girls lacrosse, badminton, track and field, and softball teams being celebrated as scholar-athletes, for achieving more than a 90 GPA.

The Board also honored the district’s retirees. Each was lauded by their respective building administrator, who all shared warm memories and well wishes with those moving on. Congratulations to the following retirees: Spanish/Italian teacher Frances Cloud (27 years), special education teacher Annette Dubiel (28 years), elementary choral director/teacher Roxanne Lalama (16), library media specialist Nancy Minkoff (24 years) and teacher Carol Sanders (30 years).

After the retirees were acknowledged, Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz led a PTA installation ceremony for the new officers of each of the school’s PTA units.
