Balloons Over Rhame

Rhame Avenue school was filled with smiles and festive energy, as its kindergarten classes marched around the building for its annual Balloons Over Rhame Avenue Parade.

This event is an adaptation of Melissa Sweet’s “Balloons Over Broadway” book, which tells the true story of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kindergartners read the book and learned how the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was first started and how it evolved overtime.

With that, students crafted their own balloons or puppets using giant paper that was stuffed with newspaper. This year’s balloons depicted characters like Spider-Man, Winnie-the-Pooh, The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch and more. Each balloon was propped up on yardsticks and carried by kindergartners, as the rest of the school stood outside their classrooms, created signs and cheered them on throughout the march.
