Dear Parents and Community Members,
Welcome to the East Rockaway
School District web page for Curriculum and Instruction. I hope you will
find important information and answers to questions related to course
offerings, learning standards, testing, and the development, adoption
and implementation of district curriculum K-12 in our schools. We strive
to provide a rigorous and engaging curriculum for all students, with
opportunities for exciting academic exploration, appropriate challenge
and meaningful success. Our programs align with NYS learning standards
and our district Strategic Plan.
As we strive to ensure all
students are college and career ready, we review student performance
data, provide academic support when needed, and reflect on instructional
practice. We provide a robust professional development program for
faculty members with opportunities for collaboration and continued
growth. Our Professional Development Plan can be found on this page. It
is reviewed and updated annually by a committee that represents a
variety of curricula areas and grade levels across our district. Through
our professional development program, we review best practices as
shared by expert consultants and we provide opportunities for
collaboration among our faculty and staff through professional learning
communities, new teacher orientation and- workshops, required
professional development hours for all faculty members, and
instructional supervision meetings for supervisors and administrators.
Information
about elementary and secondary course offerings is available through
links on this page. We are excited to implement new programs in our
elementary schools during this 2019-20 school year, including Eureka
Math now in all grades K-5 and Science 21 in grades K-3. Information
about both can be found in the menu on the left side of this page. Our
East Rockaway Jr./Sr. High School Course Description Guide also may be
accessed to review the many opportunities our students have to explore
and engage in rich and robust course offerings. Our middle school
program provides the opportunity for honors by achievement for students
in grade 7, an advisory program for students in grades 7 and 8, and
acceleration in math and science in grade 8. Our high school program
offers a vast list of college credit and Advanced Placement offerings
along with exciting elective options for our high school students. We
continually review and revise our course offerings to reflect student
interest, increased levels of rigor, and successful preparation for the
expectations of college and beyond.
Please review the information
available on this page regarding our academic programs, testing
requirements, and district initiatives. I welcome your questions and
feedback, and look forward to a successful and exciting school year.
Warmest regards,
Mona E. Hecht
