Wearing their best green colored shirts and impressive St. Patrick’s Day attire, Rhame Avenue School students added to the festivities by engaging in a St. Patrick’s Day themed STEM activity.
After reading Adam Wallace’s “How to Catch a Leprechaun,” students learned simple machines and then worked together to build “traps.” The goal for the activity was for students to pull their resources together to craft a unique trap capable of capturing a leprechaun.
While building their traps, students decided which materials to use, constructed circle maps and then made flow maps that explained how their machines or traps work. Once completed, students presented and tested their traps in front of classmates.
Students worked on their interpersonal skills by teaming up in groups and also practiced their communication skills when presenting their final product.
