Rhame students in Mrs. Jessica Beufve’s, Ms. Lori DeVarso’s and Mrs. Ashley Donovan’s classes created yarn dolls, inspired by Pam Munoz Ryan’s novel, “Esperanza Rising.”

In the book, Esperanza and her mother are forced to flee to California during the Great Depression to settle in a camp for Mexican farm workers. Her mother makes a yarn doll for a child during their train ride to California. Students crafted their own dolls using yarn donated from fifth grade families.
