Kindergarten and first grade students at Centre Avenue School recently learned about pumpkins through a festive science lesson before picking their favorite gourds at the patch.

The kindergartners first predicted it would sink or float and then learned about the different parts of the popular fall vegetable.

First grade students learned how the lines and color of a pumpkin effects the amount of seeds on the inside. Students estimated how many seeds were inside the class pumpkin. Then counted the seeds in groups of 10s and saw that their class pumpkin had 556 seeds.

The PTA generously provided supplies for the pumpkin patch.
