The district’s Board of Education congratulated and recognized its fall scholar-athletes and teams that earned the distinction as New York State Scholar-Athlete Team at its recent Board meeting. The prestigious state award is presented to teams who cumulatively achieved a 90 percent grade point average or better during the competing season.

“The fall season was very fun and successful, with success on the field of play, in the community and in the classroom,” Director of Athletics David Barth said. “We’ve had over 100 individual scholar athletes in grades 7-12 and six of our varsity teams earned the distinction as a scholar athlete team, which means over 75 percent of the roster averaged out to 90 percent or above. A terrific accomplishment.”

Mr. Barth introduced coaches who then recognized their respective athletes. The six Scholar-Athlete Teams are varsity girls soccer, varsity boys soccer, varsity cheerleading, varsity girls cross country, varsity girls tennis, and varsity girls volleyball.

Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz thanked Mr. Barth and acknowledged student athletes and staff for their efforts this fall season.

“I’d like to thank our coaches and our volunteers who help out, and most importantly all of our student athletes for not only an amazing season in these sports but their academic commitment to obtain the averages that they have,” Ms. Ruiz said. “It’s been a pleasure to watch some of our students make it to the playoffs and finals. Congratulations to all.”
