The district is proud to announce that Rhame Avenue Elementary School fourth grade teacher Gail Beyrer has achieved the National Teacher Certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. She is one of 3,831 new honorees and joins a growing community of more than 125,000 Board-certified teachers across all 50 states.

In order to become Board-certified, teachers must complete a performance based, peer-reviewed process, demonstrating their proven impact on student learning and achievement.

An alumnus of the East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School, Mrs. Beyrer has been a teacher at Rhame since 2001. She helps implement differentiated lessons across content areas using district programs such as Eureka, Writer’s Workshop and Putnam BOCES Social Studies/ELA. She is also a member of District Reading/ELA Committee, Rhame Avenue Safety team, and a member of District Strategic Planning Committee.

Mrs. Beyrer earned her Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Secondary Education from Salisbury State University and her Master of Science in Elementary Education from CUNY Hunter College. She also received her school building leader and school district leader certification from Stony Brook University. 

She also serves as the president of the East Rockaway Teachers Association, where she carries out a variety of responsibilities including working with district level administrators to communicate concerns on behalf of members and facilitate opportunities for member engagement within our school community and the community at large.

Mrs. Beyrer has worked toward this voluntary advanced certification for the past three years and said achieving this prestigious certification has been a goal for over a decade.
