Behavioral Health Center Opens

District students will benefit from the opening of a Northwell Health Urgent Care Behavioral Health Center in Rockville Centre. The Centre has opened to help address the growing crisis of mental and emotional distress in children and adolescents and the national increase in teen suicide. This state-of-the-art center was made possible by a unique collaboration between Northwell’s Cohen Children’s Medical Center, State Senator Todd Kaminsky and five local Long Island school districts, including East Rockaway. The clinic was designed specifically for students who are experiencing an urgent behavioral health crisis, including self-injurious behavior, acute anxiety and behavioral or mood disturbances affecting functioning. If an East Rockaway student is in need of the services provided by the clinic during the school day, they can meet with a school support staff member to determine if a referral to the urgent care clinic is appropriate. The clinic partnership will provide an invaluable resource for students and families.
