The district is proud to announce that Calia Kelly will be the new principal for Centre Avenue Elementary School after she was appointed to the position by the board of education in June.
Calia has been an educator for 20 years and began her career as a K-8 resource room teacher at All Saints’ Elementary School in Brooklyn. For the last 14 years, she worked at MS158 Marie Curie Middle School where she was a self-contained special education teacher for grades six through eight. She closed out her tenure at MS158 as the assistant principal, where she supervised several departments including English as New Language, Special Education, Science, Math and Foreign Language.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from SUNY College at Geneseo and then earned a Master of Science degree in Literacy and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Technology from Adelphi University. She’s also a New York State certified School Building Leader, School District Leader and Elementary Education Grades PK-6 and Special Education Birth-Grades 12.
Calia is grateful and incredibly fortunate to join the East Rockaway family, she said. It is her life’s mission to advocate for and provide all students and families with an educational experience where unique characteristics and values are celebrated, and the social-emotional aspects of each child’s life are nurtured.
