The district is proud to announce that 32 Junior-Senior High School art and writing students won a total of 60 awards for their work in the 2020 Northeast Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The competition is administered by the Alliance for Young Artists’ & Writers’ national office in New York City. For last year’s event, approximately 320,000 entries were received and viewed by more than 50 judges. More than 2,900 works of art received national recognition and included more than $300,000 in direct scholarships, and millions in tuition support being awarded.
Nine East Rockaway students were selected as Gold Key winners for the art portion of the competition. Their artwork will advance to the national level of the competition. In addition to the writing portion of the competition, junior Madeleine Prucha received four awards, including two Gold Keys, a Silver Key and an honorable mention. Her work will also continue onto the national level.
