The district is proud to announce that Junior-Senior High School junior Leslie Madera was selected by the Heckscher Museum of art as a winner of the Long Island’s Best Young Artists.

This annual exhibition features extraordinary works of art created by Long Island high school students. With 331 submissions from young artists across 56 high schools in Nassau and Suffolk counties, 83 works selected were selected by a jury.

Her work, “Boys Don’t Cry,” is on display at the Heckscher Museum, as the show opened to the public virtually and in-person on April 24. All of the exhibition’s components, including artist statements written by each student, images of artwork from the museum’s exhibitions that inspired students, and videos about selected artwork, will be available.

The district applauds Leslie on her wonderful accomplishment.
