East Rockaway English as a New Language students in grades K-12 and their families met the district ENL teachers at the East Rockaway Public Library for a literacy celebration.
Those in attendance were introduced to the multitude of resources available at the public library to support student learning, language acquisition and family engagement. The East Rockaway librarian Heather Massa and her colleagues designed a program that included a tour of the library, book browsing, crafts, information on academic support and summer programs. They also issued more than 20 library cards to students and parents. The students were encouraged to take advantage of all the helpful resources and to participate in the Summer Reading Programs.
It was a wonderful evening building bridges and making connections with our families.
