The sounds of applauses emanated from the Junior-Senior High School, as members of the board of education and administrators honored tenure recipients, a retired staff member and student accomplishments during the district’s October board of education meeting.

The celebrations kicked off with Centre Avenue Elementary School Principal Calia Kelly and Director of Pupil Personnel Services Vincent Healy presenting certificates of tenure to Centre Avenue first grade teacher Heather Figliozzi and special education teacher Brianna Ostrander, respectively. Both Mrs. Figliozzi and Mrs. Ostrander were lauded by their respective supervisors for exhibiting hard work and dedication to their positions.

Board members and administrators also celebrated the retirement of Rhame Avenue Elementary School library teacher aide Diane Dorato. Rhame Avenue Principal Ayesha McArthur spoke of Mrs. Dorato’s achievements and devotion to the district, serving Rhame for 26 years.

Senior students Madeleine Prucha and Sofia Valdebenito were also honored for their recent academic accomplishments. Madeleine earned the distinction of being named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program and Sofia was selected as a recipient for the College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program. Junior-Senior High School Principal Richard Schaffer announced each student and spoke of the dedication both students have demonstrated to their education.
