Students investigated the area of a shaded region in Mr. Jeremy Brandel and Ms. Emily Brostowin’s Geometry Foundations class at the Junior-Senior High School. For the hands-on activity, called “Shaded Area,” students created shapes and cut them out of scrap paper. After completing their image, they calculated the shape’s area and pasted it to a blank piece of 8x11-inch paper. Students then calculated the area of the white space and, by the end of the lesson, each group had a different image that they could present.
