A team of Junior-Senior High School students participated in the annual design and build competition known internationally as CANstruction.

Though primarily a competition for professional architects and engineers, this is the second year select student teams have participated in this unique food drive. East Rockaway’s design this year was a Rubik’s cube, which totaled 1,764 cans of food.

The structure is now on display at RXR Plaza in Uniondale for the annual Long Island CANstruction 2019 Exhibit. For their design, the team won CANcept for best use of labels.

It will be on display until Nov. 18. To show support, visit the exhibit and drop a can of food into the box next to the structure. Visitors can also vote for best CANtender, which will be given to a team that has the most cans donated.
