The Junior-Senior High School is proud to announce seniors Lucy Temple as valedictorian and Emma Pollackov as salutatorian for the Class of 2021.

Lucy carries a 102.50 GPA and is known as an intuitive problem solver who dives deeply into her passions. She recognizes the roles she plays in all aspects of her life and commits to them wholeheartedly. As a student, Lucy excels in leadership roles in the classroom by being able to take charge in a way that is supportive when working in groups. She strives to execute a plan and makes sure all team members are on board before proceeding. Her favorite subjects include regents’ classes, such as science, earth science, living environment and chemistry. This year, she’s also taking AP Physics.

Outside of the classroom, Lucy is a member of many clubs, including National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, Key Club, Stage Crew, School Musical, Varsity Basketball Manager, Rock Rivalry Chairperson and is secretary to the Class of 2021. In addition, she has also been a dedicated member of the school’s soccer team since seventh grade and a member of the band as a clarinet player since fourth grade. Outside of school, Lucy has held two jobs working at the concessions stand at Hewlett Point Beach and was also a camp counselor at Camp Integrity.

With a 102.13 GPA. Emma is dedicated, reliable and incredibly mature way beyond her years. She is a member of many clubs and organizations, including the National Honor Society and Class of 2021 Chairperson. She is also a talented flautist and an active leader in chorus and band since she was in third grade and has been a member of every musical and performance. She is also a Tri-M officer for the East Rockaway chapter and a participant in this year’s All-State NYSSMA for vocal performance. Emma also recently received the NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensemble, as the only student to receive this honor in the history of East Rockaway schools. Along with this, she is the captain of the school’s softball, girls volleyball and girls basketball teams. She uses her talent as an athlete to support her peers in unified sports and physical education.

With a passion for helping others, Emma volunteers with the school social worker to spend time with special needs students. She also volunteers at Camp ANCHOR, a camp for students with special needs. Her involvement working with youngsters and children who learn differently continue outside of school and volunteering. In addition, Emma is a server at a local restaurant and a babysitter. When the district was closed during the pandemic for remote learning, Emma raised the spirits of her community and fellow musicians by coordinating photo collages and participating in virtual performances.

Emma will be continuing her education and will attend Moravian College in the fall. Lucy is undecided.
