Centre Avenue Elementary Honors Local Veterans with Heartfelt Ceremony

Centre Avenue Elementary School gathered this morning to pay tribute to local veterans in a moving Veterans Day ceremony that brought together students, staff and community heroes.
The school-wide assembly began at 8:40 a.m. with students and staff congregating outside the building alongside a distinguished group of veterans. The ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a stirring string arrangement of America the Beautiful performed by a talented trio of Centre Avenue string players.
In a touching gesture of gratitude, students presented handmade cards to each of the veterans in attendance, expressing their appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
Superintendent James DeTommaso led the ceremony, which was also attended by several district administrators who joined in honoring the veterans.
Following the outdoor ceremony, the veterans were invited inside where they participated in a question-and-answer session with students. The interactive discussion gave young learners a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about life in the military and the experiences of those who have served our country.
The ceremony honored seven local veterans representing multiple branches of the armed forces:
* Andy Basile, U.S. Army
* Joseph Bruzzo, U.S. Navy
* Ed Cook, U.S. Navy
* Tony Donato, U.S. Air Force
* Mayor Gordon Fox, U.S. Marines
* John Marcantonio, U.S. Army
* Peter Vitulli, U.S. Army
The East Rockaway School District extends its deepest gratitude to these veterans for their service to our nation and for taking the time to share their experiences with the Centre Avenue Elementary community.
