East Rockaway students earn top honors in Northwell Mental Health Art Contest

Three East Rockaway High School students have been recognized for their work in Northwell's Erase the Stigma Creative Art Contest, a competition timed to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Month. The contest challenges students to raise awareness about mental health challenges and reduce the stigma around seeking help.
This year's theme, Seen. Heard. Connected., invited students to create original artwork expressing connection and understanding. Submissions were judged on originality, creativity and how effectively each piece reflected the theme. Winning works will be featured on inspirational cards and displayed across Northwell campuses, including Cohen Children's Medical Center.
East Rockaway's students brought home three honors. Jethro Jacquet earned first place for his piece “988,” while Melina Morris claimed second place with “The Sound That Won't Come Out.” Eva Mena received the distinction of Most Powerful for her artwork, “The Weight of My Thoughts.”
The district congratulates Jethro, Melina and Eva on their achievements and is proud of the thoughtfulness and courage reflected in their work.
