Rhame Avenue kicks off PARP Month with readings, rallies and varsity visitors

Rhame Avenue Elementary School is celebrating Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) month with a full slate of activities designed to get students excited about reading. Sponsored by the New York State PTA, PARP is a program aimed at fostering a lifelong love of literacy.
Leading the charge are Ms. Rodgers, Ms. Lugo, and Mr. Weber from Rhame Avenue's reading department, who have put together a lineup of events including assemblies, read-ins and dress-up days, all centered on celebrating books and reading.
The month got off to an energetic start with an opening pep rally, followed by a special visit from East Rockaway Jr/Sr High School’s varsity baseball players. The athletes went classroom to classroom, reading aloud to students and sharing how reading supports success both on and off the field. All of the books tied into this year's PARP theme, Reading for a Healthy You, with a focus on wellness. Each visiting player also gave away a book to one lucky winner in their class.
It was an energizing kickoff, and students are eager to see what the rest of PARP month has in store.
