Rhame Avenue Students Reflect on Gratitude During PARP Celebration

Rhame Avenue Elementary School students continued their Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) celebration last week with a Gratitude Journal and Draw activity, inviting students and staff to slow down and reflect on the people and moments they appreciate most.
As students were reminded, gratitude means taking time to recognize the people, experiences, and things that bring joy, comfort, and support, from a friend’s smile or a favorite book to a sunny day or a caring teacher. During the activity, students quietly journaled or sketched what gratitude means to them as calming music played, setting a peaceful tone for reflection.
To add a festive touch, students and staff dressed as someone they are grateful for, honoring the important people who help them grow, learn, and succeed.
PARP, developed in 1978 by New York State Senator James Donovan, encourages a partner, whether a parent, grandparent, older sibling, babysitter, or friend, to read with a child for at least 20 minutes each day. The program is built on the idea that strengthening the connection between home and school is key to fostering a lifelong love of reading.
