THE ROCK REPORT: June 2026

ACHIEVEMENT
- Paul Lynch, Austin Mullins, Mekhi Stewart and Angie Hernandez competed in the NYS Track and Field qualifying meet. Paul Lynch advanced to the state championship in Rochester on June 13 and 14, competing in the 400M Intermediate High Hurdles and Triple Jump.
- This year's Athletic Awards were a great success, and a balloon Rock Man was a huge hit. The pride shown by athletes, families, coaches and staff underscored the positive impact athletics has on our school community.
- 95 seniors were recognized at the Senior Awards, with $51,000 in scholarships awarded. Thank you to Mr. Madden for leading the event and to the teaching staff for their heartfelt contributions.
- June 11 brought the Music and Art Awards. Thank you to our art and music teachers for their outstanding work with students this year. Top-performing seniors received departmental scholarships.

Opportunity
- Juniors participated in a college application and essay writing workshop over the past month, coordinated by Ms. Anisis and the English and Social Studies departments.
- Ms. Maleska coordinated Career Week at Rhame and Centre Avenue, which was a great success.
- Ms. Maleska also partnered with Hempstead Works to provide students with virtual reality exposure to career training in the trades.
- Ms. Robbins and Mr. Gregory brought Marines into physical education classes at ERHS to teach students military exercises and what it means to work out like a soldier.
- 12th graders took part in a mock interview event coordinated by the humanities department. Students received feedback on their interview skills, and the event provided administrators with valuable insights into how to better support students' future planning and readiness.

Innovation
- Students in Ms. Miah's Technology 8 class at East Rockaway High School have been using Tinkercad and 3D printers to create custom phone stands and remote organizers.
- Mr. Madden and Ms. Maleska completed the onboarding of 6th graders into Schoollinks, helping counselors and students navigate the transition from 6th to 7th grade.
Connection
- In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the social work team at East Rockaway High School organized a range of activities, initiatives and workshops throughout May to promote well-being and connect students and staff with mental health resources. Thank you to the team for their dedication to raising awareness of this important issue.
- The Jr./Sr. High performed their spring concert to a packed house on May 19. The district art show was held the same evening in the ERHS gym. Both events were a great success.
- On June 8, elementary students delivered an impressive performance at their spring concert.
- On May 29, junior high students took a day trip to Coney Island and had a wonderful time.
- AP Computer Science students created websites for local businesses, a real-world application of their studies that also strengthened connections within the community.
