ERHS Gull Staff Inspires Young Journalists at Rhame Avenue

The talented Gull Staff from East Rockaway High School made a special visit to Rhame Avenue School last week, bringing their expertise and enthusiasm for journalism to an eager group of 4th graders. Their dynamic presentation on informational and opinion newspaper articles provided an engaging and insightful foundation for an exciting PBL project the 4th graders are working on.
As part of this PBL project, 4th graders will be creating their own newspaper, featuring both types of writing and offering multiple perspectives on the American Revolution. To kick off the project, the ERHS students shared their knowledge of journalism, guiding younger students through the process of reporting and writing with clarity and purpose. Their visit was an invaluable opportunity for the elementary students to learn firsthand from experienced student journalists.
In addition to their presentation, the Gull Staff members worked closely with small groups of 4th graders, offering feedback on their practice reporting about an important topic: recess! Through this hands-on experience, students gained a deeper understanding of research, fact-gathering, and crafting balanced articles.
The collaboration between the ERHS Gull Staff and Rhame Avenue’s budding reporters was truly inspiring. A big thank you to the Gull Staff for their support, and Rhame Ave’s 4th graders look forward to sharing their finished newspapers with the Gull once their project is complete!
