East Rockaway High School’s Skills & Achievement Students Honored as Hometown Heroes

At the Apr. 23 meeting of the East Rockaway Board of Education, a group of exceptional students from East Rockaway High School’s Skills and Achievement program were recognized as Hometown Heroes for their outstanding contributions to the school community.
The students, who are part of the district’s vocational and life skills training program for students with special needs, were celebrated for their dedication, responsibility and service. Mr. Vincent Healy, Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services, joined special education teacher Ms. Crowley at the podium to highlight the students’ ongoing efforts across the building.
Whether sorting and delivering mail, assisting with laundry for the athletics department, or serving staff members at the popular Café 217—a free café hosted in Ms. Crowley’s classroom—these students demonstrate the values of hard work, independence and school spirit each and every day.
This month’s Hometown Hero Award was presented to Nefeli Karantoni-Lewis, David Nozius, Mikayla O’Connell, Mason Sandhu, Tyler Santosus, Zeina Shafai, and Zeta Medina. Each student received enthusiastic applause from the audience in recognition of their meaningful contributions.
