East Rockaway Students Engage in Mental Health Awareness Month Activities
Throughout the month of May, East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School has been focused on fostering student well-being in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. The school has offered a variety of engaging and supportive activities aimed at promoting mindfulness, connection, and emotional wellness.
Each day, students have received helpful wellness tips to encourage small, positive actions they can take to support their mental health. The school also welcomed a special guest—Sloopy the therapy dog—whose calming presence brought smiles and comfort to students throughout the week.
In the library, students were invited to explore a thoughtfully curated display of books focused on self-care, mental health, and emotional resilience. Additional activities available in the rotunda included games, crafts, and art projects designed to provide creative outlets and promote relaxation.
All seventh graders participated in a workshop on building and maintaining healthy relationships, while students in grades 8–12 had the opportunity to attend a lunch-time wellness workshop in the student center, where they learned practical tools for managing stress and caring for their mental well-being.
To wrap up the month, students received goodie bags filled with coping strategies, fun bracelets, and other thoughtful items to remind them that taking care of their mental health is important every day of the year.
East Rockaway’s ongoing commitment to student wellness ensures that Mental Health Awareness is more than just a moment—it’s a meaningful part of school culture.
