East Rockaway launches inaugural summer B.O.O.S.S.T. program

The East Rockaway School District is thrilled to debut its new Summer B.O.O.S.S.T. (Better Opportunities and Outcomes for Student Success Tomorrow) program - an engaging and targeted academic initiative designed to help students entering grades 1–6 stay on track during the summer months.
Replacing the former Summer CLIMB program, B.O.O.S.S.T. is locally funded and built around spring i-Ready data to support students’ individual needs and help eliminate the “summer slide” in literacy and math skills. The program also features exciting STEAM enrichment activities, making learning both purposeful and fun.
Taking place at Rhame Avenue Elementary School from July 8–24, the program runs Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8–11 a.m. Families could choose from one, two, or all three subject areas - literacy, math, and STEAM - for a personalized summer experience. All instruction is led by East Rockaway’s own teachers and interventionists, ensuring continuity and familiarity for students.
To support a full day of enrichment, the district coordinated with Mr. Joe Lorres’s summer camp program, allowing students to enjoy both academic learning and summer camp fun in one seamless day.
Student engagement has been high, and the district is excited to review fall i-Ready results to guide the future of the program. Summer B.O.O.S.S.T. is already showing promise as a powerful tool in supporting year-round student success.
