East Rockaway students earn gold at Long Island Math Fair

East Rockaway High School students showcased their mathematical prowess at the Long Island Math Fair on Mar. 28, bringing home top honors for their outstanding research and presentation.
Among the competition’s brightest stars were Thomas Donovan, Adam Kolakowski and Edison Guilbert, who earned gold for their exploration of infinity in mathematics. Their presentation delved into the history and significance of infinity, touching on essential mathematical concepts such as limits, asymptotes and sets of prime numbers—including the elusive twin prime conjecture, a topic still studied by modern mathematicians.
Their research also brought to life intriguing paradoxes and real-world applications of infinity, including Hilbert's Hotel, the Ross Littlewood Paradox, and the mesmerizing, infinity-inspired artwork of Maurits Cornelis Escher.
Each student dedicated countless hours to perfecting their research and delivery, and their hard work was evident in their exceptional performance at the competition. Their passion and dedication to mathematics are truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see where their journey takes them next at ERHS and beyond!
