Dear East Rockaway Families,

Welcome to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. This office coordinates curricular and instructional practices throughout our district as well as overseeing registration and professional learning. The mission of the East Rockaway School District is to respect our diverse community and proud traditions by engaging every student in an innovative and challenging educational program, which inspires learners to become self-directed, ethical, creative, and globally conscious citizens. We fulfill this mission by supporting literacy and numeracy development at the elementary level that builds the foundation necessary for students to succeed in middle school, high school, and beyond. Our Junior/Senior High School provides core instruction in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies while offering extensive co-curricular and elective classes including physical education and the comprehensive arts, business and technology, world languages, college-level courses, and a full range of academic supports.

The East Rockaway School District meets its vision of setting a course for excellence by providing instruction aligned to the Next Generation Learning Standards within locally developed curricula that prioritize the 21st Century Learning Skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Our curriculum and instruction office is committed to the four pillars of the District Strategic Plan. We provide programs and learning environments that promote opportunity, achievement, connection, and innovation. We recognize that preparation for college, career, citizenship, and life readiness begins in our elementary schools and continues through graduation. We value a school community where students have opportunities to achieve through innovative learning experiences and can connect to each other and the broader global community.

We invite you to frequent our site as new information is posted regularly. Our postings on this page will expand throughout the year and should give you greater insight into the expectations, core values, and exciting learning opportunities for all students within the East Rockaway School District. Feel free to reach out to me to discuss any questions you may have. I welcome your feedback and look forward to every meeting with members of this great community.

Sincerely,

Sean K. Murray
