ERHS Summer One Book - Update #2

Posted Date: 7/21/25 (4:00 PM)

Dear ERHS Students and Families,
As we continue our journey into summer reading, remember that Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and Born a Crime by Trevor Noah both offers a chance to explore unique perspectives and powerful stories around the theme of finding your own path.

As you continue to read your assigned book, consider the quotes below and reflect on the question that follows.

From Stargirl, consider this quote:
"She was the sun and the moon and the stars all rolled into one."
How does Stargirl’s individuality challenge the norms of her school community? What does this say about the importance of being true to yourself?

From Born a Crime, reflect on this passage:
"Language, even more than color, defines who you are to people."
How does Trevor Noah’s experience with language shape his identity and relationships? In what ways has language influenced your own sense of self?

Enjoy your reading journey!
