The district congratulates ERHS tenth grader Andrew Chen on winning second place at the Growing Beyond Earth Symposium, a classroom-based citizen science competition led by NASA designed to advance research on growing plants in space.

Andrew’s research project entitled “How would elevated concentrations of CO2 affect the germination rate of Eruca Sativa?” focused on how CO2 levels impact seed germination. His research aimed to solve the problem of processing and storing fresh food for extended space missions by investigating options for growing produce on the International Space Station.

This is East Rockaway's first year in the program.
