On Friday, Feb. 14, East Rockaway High School joined over 500 schools across New York State in celebrating P.S. I Love You Day, a heartfelt initiative promoting mental health awareness, kindness, and community. This year, the observance carried extra significance as it coincided with Valentine’s Day, reinforcing the message of love and support for all.
To demonstrate solidarity and raise awareness, students and staff were encouraged to wear purple, the official color of P.S. I Love You Day. Throughout the day, the atmosphere was filled with positivity as fun music played, children smiled, and meaningful conversations took place. During lunch periods, students and staff participated in an interactive activity by writing on heart-shaped notes, responding to the prompt, “I want the next chapter of my life to include …” This activity aligned with the theme, “Love All Your Chapters,” encouraging individuals to think about their future with optimism and hope.
In addition to heartfelt messages, students received purple heart stickers, 988 resource stickers, pens, stress balls, and fidget spinners—small tokens reinforcing the importance of mental wellness and support. The school’s collective message was clear: YOU are special, loved, and never alone.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, experiencing emotional distress, or needs support, call or text 988 for free and confidential emotional assistance, available 24/7.
