Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance.
-Carl Sandburg
The third graders at Centre Avenue school studied many poets like Carl Sandburg. They recognized the many different ways poets structure the lines, verses, and stanzas of their poems. The students also identified the figurative language that brought the poems to life.
The third graders then created a book of their own poetry. They included similes and metaphors, onomatopoeia, alliteration, hyperbole, personification, repetition, and imagery in their works of art.
Parents came to celebrate the students' creativity.
